The design team working behind the scenes helps me continue to do what I do.

Silk Route’s success is owed to many people… starting with the design team in India who help me conceptualize the fabric, to my friends who proudly wear the dresses.

Akron Saifi, or Masterjee as we respectfully call him, has known me for the past 30 years! From stitching dresses for me since 1991, when I graduated from college, to stitching tunics and dresses for my friends/clients here in Peoria.

Silk Route Fashion Success Story Highlighted

Bradley University’s Turner Center for Entrepreneurship recently published an article on Silk Route Fashion. The article highlights the challenges and obstacles that Silk Route has overcome to provide Indian Fashion to Peoria and Central Illinois.

New Adventures

E-commerce: a new learning experience

For years I have had friends in my studio and worked with them one-on-one to understand their lifestyle to help design outfits or help find a perfect necklace or statement bracelet for a special occasion.

I have been a traditionalist & believed in “in person” shopping. When you are in the studio, you get to feel the texture of the fabric or put the scarf next to your dress to see how it looks. I was trying to overlook the power of internet shopping

COVID made me realize that Silk Route had to evolve & I needed help stepping into the highly competitive & crowded e-commerce world.

I reached out to the Bradley University-Turner Center for Entrepreneurship. Greg Douglas & Chris Youngmark understood my challenges as a small business owner with a great product line looking for visibility in a virtual marketplace. Small Business Development Center (SBDC) introduced me to Patricia Guerrero, a senior at Bradley University & we created SilkRoutefashion on Etsy marketplace. It is a huge step forward & we are continuing to exchange ideas & learn going forward.

My partnership with SBDC continues to evolve & my heartfelt gratitude to Scott, Greg, Chris, Patricia & Craig for enabling Silk Route.

The Blue Butterfly

Butterflies are symbols of good luck, rebirth, renewal and metamorphosis

Butterflies are a symbol of soul & immortality in different cultures around the world.

The Blue Butterfly is uncommon. Experts believe that blue are symbols of good fortune and divine blessings.

Pink Butterflies symbolizes joy, softness, and femininity. They also represent compassion, nurturing & love. That is what Mother Nature is all about! Joy & Love!!!

That is what womanhood is all about! What a perfect Mother’s Day gift.

Color Symbolism

Colors represent feelings and color symbolism is a real thing.

Colors affect moods & emotions. It has been scientifically proven that colors impact our emotional, physical & psychological well-being.

Warm colors represent feelings of warmth and aggressiveness.

Yellow is a youthful color. Yellow is joyful, happy, kind and brings hope. It represents a bright, lively & striking personality. Not only is it hard to miss, but this is the color that catches everyone’s eye.

Red is the color of passion and confidence. It can be striking and aggressive. Red signifies courage, desire, admiration, and respect.

Pink is feminine & romantic, affectionate & intimate, thoughtful & caring. It tones down the physical passion of red and replaces it with the gentle soft loving energy.

Cool colors are calming & relaxing.

Blue is the color of nature-sky & sea. Blue is associated with the healing power of God. It is the color of hope, faith, truth and heaven. Blue is the color of compassion. It is also associated with wisdom, depth of understanding, peaceful, tranquility, and serenity.

Blue is the most preferred color of all.
Blue’s calming attributes help lower our heart rate, blood pressure & even our body temperature.
Blue is also a lonely color & defines solitude, loyalty and maturity.

Turquoise is calm.

Teal is sophisticated.

White symbolizes clarity & freshness, peace & innocence. White is also a color of youth. It can also be a color of mourning.

White & Gold represent richness and opulence.

Violet signifies strength, peace, and wisdom. Violet brings inner harmony and peace.

Purple signifies wealth, kindness, and compassion. It is also a color for good finance.

Green symbolizes freshness, hope, rebirth, renewal, immortality, and of course Springtime! After a dark cold winter comes freshness of green with the warmth of yellow sunshine and springtime flowers. Green is a restful, quiet & comforting color. It is a color of kindness & invites harmony & diffuses anxiety. Green symbolizes peace and new beginnings.

After an exhaustive year 2020, how do we welcome 2021?

We have HOPE with the vaccines that life will return to normal. A life where we can dress up, meet friends and family for lunches and dinners, have weddings and celebrations.

But we all know it will never be the same. The pandemic has scarred our lives in the short-term. But with time we will heal our scars and rise & shine. SPRING is here! Life and nature are thriving and so is HOPE in our hearts.

Let’s refresh our closets, add a little color to our wardrobe and life.
